🔒 5. Data Storage & Security
5.1 Where Your Data Lives
Your data is stored on servers located in India. Our backend API operates at solarcalculatorapi.karmadude.in.
5.2 On-Device Storage
The App stores a copy of your JWT session token and your basic profile (name, email, state) in SharedPreferences on your device so you remain logged in between sessions. This data is private to the App and is not accessible to other apps on your device.
5.3 Security Measures
- Passwords — hashed with bcrypt before storage; never readable by anyone, including us.
- Transmission — all API traffic uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.
- Authentication — JSON Web Tokens (JWT) with short-lived expiry; revoked immediately on logout.
- 401/403 auto-logout — if your token is detected as invalid, the App wipes your local session automatically.
- Access control — backend endpoints are guarded; users can only read and modify their own data.
No system is perfectly secure. In the unlikely event of a data breach, we will notify affected users promptly in accordance with applicable law.

SolarCalc AI is intended for users aged 13 years and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at privacy@karmadude.in and we will delete the information promptly.

The App may include educational content or links that reference external websites. SolarCalc AI is not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.
The App uses the following open-source packages which process data entirely on your device:
- http — for API communication (HTTPS only)
- shared_preferences — for on-device storage of session data and app settings
- google_fonts — downloads font files from Google Fonts CDN at runtime
- lottie — plays local animation files; no network requests
- pdf / printing — generates PDF reports on-device; no data sent externally
🍪 11. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
SolarCalc AI is a native mobile application. We do not use browser cookies or cross-app tracking technologies. The only local storage we use is Android/iOS SharedPreferences (equivalent to local storage) for storing your session token and app preferences.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will:
- Update the Last Updated date at the top of this page.
- For significant changes, notify you via an in-app notice or email before the change takes effect.
Continued use of the App after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of India.
